Link Cheating On The Rise
What is link cheating? Many times I have been taken for a ride in a link exchange when my partner failed to put up my link, in spite of their link having been placed prominently on my website. At first I took this to be an unintentional mistake. But repeated instances made me take a closer look. These were typical cases of cheating. You add someone's link to your directory believing that the person will reciprocate. But that does not happen and you get duped.
Running a manual check to find out whether your link had been added is time consuming even if you use an automated tool. This had compelled some sites to go to the extreme steps of adding a link only after positive verification that their link had been added. Of course new sites that do not have good rankings cannot dream of such a luxury.
As the number of sites increases so does the necessity for link exchange. As with every other enterprise, this too attracts a lot of bad water. You should avoid such cheaters in order to benefit from the hard work that has been put in. Use extreme caution while trying for a link exchange. Even after the deal has been clinched make it a habit to cross check and ensure that your link has been added.
You may also include a note of caution in your correspondences stating that if your partners do not reciprocate within a reasonable period of time, their link will be removed from your site.
